"Powerful voices need to be expressed with restraint so that less powerful voices can be heard, in this way the resultant conversation has greater strength. When those with less powerful voices are children or young people, not allowing the full space for the ‘orchestration’ of all voices is not only unacceptable and contrary to the spirit of the Every Child Matters agenda, it also undermines the purpose and aspiration of individualized and community learning agendas."
Tony Shallcross and John Robinson, Institute of Education. Manchester Metropolitan University

How does the survey work?

Our Pupil Voice system is based on an online questionnaire which identifies your pupils' attitudes in the five major areas which contribute to learning effectiveness. The survey is very child-friendly, and is suitable for use in KS2 and above. It has forty questions and takes around 10 minutes to complete. We analyse your pupils' responses and produce a comprehensive report which we cross-reference according to your requirements; we pinpoint the attitudes of every individual child, and also any of a range of gender, ability, ethnic or social groupings you may request. You may choose to have your whole school, particular cohorts or class 'climate' groups involved.

Will I get support in using the survey data to benefit pupils' learning?

Absolutely. Our survey report is just the beginning. Part of the Pupil Voice system is an academic year's support from one of our ex-headteacher consultants. We work with you to identify underperforming, at-risk and 'invisible' pupils and groups, and help to create an appropriate and effective support programme to be utilised by your own support staff. We monitor and evaluate progress so you know exactly how successful our work together has been.

What are 'invisible' children?

Most schools know their gifted and talented pupils, and those with special needs and barriers to learning. The Pupil Voice system will pick out those children, of course, but it typically identifies also a small group of pupils who are 'doing ok' but whose attitudes and feelings about school are actually negative in a number of respects. We call these invisible children because their identification often surprises. Research has shown that, without support, as many as one-fifth of all children performing satisfactorily at KS2, for example, will fail by the end of KS4. The Pupil Voice instrument will identify these children, so we can make sure that they receive the inputs they need to keep them on track for success later.

What about the views of parents, guardians and carers?

‘Pupilvoice and Adult Voice are incredibly good, and unbelievable value for money. We wouldn’t use anything else’.
